About Beechwood Vets

Our team provides a friendly service covering all aspects of veterinary surgery and medicine – vaccinations, routine and emergency services, medical investigations, dietary advice, dental work etc. Our clients have access to 24-hour emergency consultations and treatment. We are approved by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) as a practice that can train small animal nursing staff. The RCVS Practice Standards Scheme was launched in January 2005 to establish a quality assurance framework to promote and maintain the highest standard of veterinary care.

Our Facilities

Our four surgeries across Leeds are equipped with modern medical and surgical equipment, enabling us to give your pet the best and most up to date treatment available.

Operation Facilities

We understand that owners worry when their pet has to have a general anaesthetic. We utilise a range of modern drugs and monitoring equipment to keep your pet as safe as possible.

Laboratory equipment

For urgent cases and pre-anaesthetic blood screening, we can run tests “in house”. The results are available in 15 to 20 minutes. A more comprehensive range of tests is available through external laboratories with results usually provided within 24 hours.

Ultrasonography

Ultrasonography enables us to scan the inside of the body without discomfort to your pet and is a very useful aid to diagnosis.

X-ray facilities

X-ray facilities are available at all of our surgeries, except Garforth. We may need to sedate or anaesthetise your animal to take accurate pictures and satisfy Health and Safety requirements for our staff. Our digital X-ray machines at the Crossgates and Chapel Allerton branches enables us to share images with our other branches and with referral centres.

ECG

We have an ECG machine available at the Crossgates branch with one of our veterinary surgeons that has an interest in cardiology. The ECG machine can detect life threatening heart conditions.

We have a dedicated team of ten veterinary surgeons, who are complimented by an extensive support team of nurses, receptionists and administrative staff.
Our dedicated and trained nursing staff are here to care for our in patients and we offer free nurse out patient clinics to clients with pets, providing guidance and advice and special offers.
Our friendly, caring team of receptionists are ready to welcome clients and their animals and deal with any enquiries.

I grew up on the Orkney Islands and graduated from Glasgow Vet School in 2013. I worked as a small animal vet in Burnley for my first 18 months and then moved to Wetherby to live with my husband Andy and our two dogs Scapa the Working Cocker Spaniel, Stitch the Jack Russell and our cat Stewart. I started working at Beechwood in February 2015.

I hold a GP certificate in Western Veterinary Acupuncture and Chronic Pain Management and hold weekly chronic pain clinics to spend more time getting to know and help our patients with pain issues. 

Outside of work I enjoy walking with the dogs. I also love live music and travelling.

At Beechwood Vets we are proud to say that our nursing team is made up of Qualified, Registered Veterinary Nurses and nurses in training to become Qualified nurses. We feel that by providing you with a trained and qualified team we are able to give you the best possible care for your pet. The RVN’s are committed to on-going clinical training and commit to a number of hours ‘continuing professional development’ to enable them to stay enrolled as Registered Nurses.

I joined the Practice in 1995 as a trainee. I qualified as a nurse in January 1998 and a few years later I became Head Nurse. I had my daughter in July 2004 and returned to work initially as a senior VN and then returning to my position as Head Nurse. My main interest is assisting in orthopaedic surgery. Outside of work I enjoy Ballroom/Latin dancing and walking my Golden retriever with my family.

Way back in 1992 I did my 2 weeks work experience here at Beechwood. Those weeks cemented the fact that Veterinary Nursing was the career I wanted. I started training 2 years later and qualified in 1997. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. I came back to the practice in 2006 and am now deputy head nurse and the clinical coach for our student nurses. I have a special interest in surgery. I love my job and love working with such a great team. Outside of work I like travelling with my husband and close friends and have one beautiful little Staffi called Roxi

I had my daughter in 2009 and returned to work part-time in 2010. After having my son I now work part-time, mainly on weekends. My main interest is medical nursing and outside of work I enjoy horse riding and walking my labrador.

After volunteering after school from the age of 13, I joined the Practice straight from school in 1992.  I worked as a veterinary nurse at the Beeston Surgery where I qualified as a nurse in 1998.  After showing an interest in the business side of the Practice I have been working as Practice Manager since 2004.  I still like to keep my hand in with the nursing side and so you may see me helping out on reception or in theatre.

I joined Beechwood Vets in May 2014 after being a client at our Chapeltown Road branch since I was 6 years old. I started as the evening and weekend receptionist sharing this role with Nicola, but I now mainly work through the week.

I first joined the Practice on 1977 when it was a mixed animal practice and worked as a receptionist/nurse.  After 9 1/2 years I left only to find that I missed the ‘buzz’ of the surgery and returned to the Practice in 1988.  At home I have a chocolate labrador so life is never dull!

I finished my degree in 2012 by the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança in Portugal, as a qualified veterinary nurse and became a registered nurse at the RCVS in 2016.
